This article examines the life, military-political activity, and historical legacy of Jaloliddin Manguberdi within the context of early 13th-century Eurasian transformations. Drawing on primary chronicles and modern historiographical interpretations, the study analyzes Jaloliddin’s resistance against the Mongol expansion as a critical episode of regional statehood defense. Particular attention is paid to the geopolitical fragmentation of the Khwarazmian state after 1220, where Jaloliddin’s campaigns represented one of the last organized efforts to counter the advancing forces of Genghis Khan. Statistical estimates from historical sources suggest that within a decade, Mongol invasions led to the collapse of major urban centers across Transoxiana and Khorasan, with population losses in some regions exceeding 50%, thereby amplifying the significance of Jaloliddin’s resistance. The article further evaluates his military strategies, including mobile warfare tactics and the strategic use of natural terrain, particularly during the Indus River campaign (1221), which remains one of the most symbolically significant episodes in Central Asian history. Comparative analysis reveals that despite limited resources and fragmented political support, Jaloliddin maintained a mobile army that operated across vast territories - from Khwarazm to the Indian subcontinent and Iran - demonstrating adaptive leadership under extreme geopolitical pressure. The study also addresses the historiographical evolution of his image, from medieval chronicles to contemporary national narratives, highlighting his role as a symbol of resistance, sovereignty, and military valor. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of state resilience, leadership under crisis, and the broader patterns of imperial expansion and resistance in medieval Eurasia.Downloads
