Abstract

The development of digital technologies has significantly transformed modern education systems, particularly in the field of foreign language learning. Mobile applications have become increasingly popular because they provide learners with flexible, accessible, and interactive educational opportunities. Applications such as Duolingo, Memrise, Babbel, Quizlet, Busuu, and Rosetta Stone allow students to practice vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, listening, reading, and speaking skills through smartphones and tablets. Mobile learning enables students to continue educational activities outside traditional classroom environments and supports independent learning habits. This article analyzes the role of mobile applications in foreign language learning and examines their educational advantages, limitations, and practical implications. The paper discusses how mobile technologies contribute to learner motivation, vocabulary retention, pronunciation development, learner autonomy, and personalized education. At the same time, it evaluates challenges such as digital distraction, unequal technological access, excessive screen time, reduced face-to-face communication, and overdependence on automated learning systems. Based on conceptual analysis and current academic literature, the article argues that mobile applications can significantly improve foreign language education when they are integrated into balanced pedagogical strategies and supported by effective teacher guidance.
